Bee Venom is a Good Thing!

March 05, 2015

Health, Honey Bees

I don't know about you, but the first time I heard bee venom could be good for me I let out a very loud and emphatic, "WHAT?" You mean to tell me that bee sting I have been avoiding all these years could actually do me some good? Amazingly, there are some alternative medicinal purposes for bee venom, that is as long as you are not allergic to it!

Bee Venom in History

The actual use of honey bee products as an alternative healing method is called Apitherapy. This relates to all honey bee products, not just the venom. While its exact origin is unknown, there is evidence it was used in ancient Egypt and Greece, as well as China. It is also mentioned in religious books, such as the Koran and Bible.

In modern times, one of the most notable names in Apitherapy is Charles Mraz. He is considered the "pioneer of bee venom therapy." His studies primarily centered on the treatment of autoimmune diseases with bee stings. He was also a founding member of the American Apitherapy Society.

Administering Bee Venom

Way back when, before there were syringes, bee venom was administered directly from the bee. Yes, that's right, people would actually get stung by a bee on purpose! Once the syringe was invented, administering bee venom became a bit easier and surely much less stressful for the patient.

How Was Bee Venom Used?

In history and modern day Apitherapy, bee venom has been used for conditions such as arthritis and basic pain relief. It has also been used as an anti-inflammatory. While some individuals have claimed it has helped them with conditions such as shingles and tendinitis, there are no formal medical studies at this time backing these claims.

The subject of bee venom has become an increasingly popular topic because we are seeing it in more and more products today. In addition to balms and such, bee venom is now appearing in numerous skin care products. Does it work? Does it not work? The bottom line here is that everyone's body is different and reacts differently to various treatments. The only way to truly know is to try it!

Are you ready to dip your toes into the bee venom pool? Do you have aching muscles and tired joints? Balms have been used to treat these problems for years and we have a Bee Venom Cream that our customers absolutely love. Liberally apply the cream to those sore, aching muscles and enjoy its benefits.
