Manuka Honey Catnip Bites
It can be tricky trying to find or buy treats for your pets because you never if those treats are healthy or not without looking up the exact ingredients – and then checking to see if those ingredients are healthy at all! If your favorite feline is a fan of catnip, however, then these Manuka Honey Catnip Bites may be the best treat to share with your cat.
Before making the treats, try to feed a small portion of Manuka honey to your cat to see how he or she reacts to it. As for the catnip, put a small amount in one of the cat’s favorite toys or bedding material and watch his or her reaction. Some cats go crazy for it, and some don’t—it just depends on the feline. Catnip is safe for cats, but they can have bad reactions including vomiting or hyperactivity if they have too much at one time.
So, while your feline pal may want just one more treat once she’s tried it, hold off on feeding her too many! It may help to do some research on your cat's breed and size to see just how much catnip is enough. Now, if you think these are the treats for your cat, here’s how to make them:
Ingredients:
- 1 1/2 cups whole wheat flour
- 1 1/2 teaspoons organic catnip
- 1/3 cup dry milk
- 1/2 cup milk
- 2 tablespoons melted butter
- 1 tablespoon Manuka honey
- 1 large egg
Directions:
- Preheat the oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit on the bake setting.
- Combine the dry ingredients in a mixing bowl.
- Add the wet ingredients and mix with the dry ingredients to form a dough.
- Roll out the dough and add more flour if needed, and then cut the dough into squares or small shapes.
- Bake the dough shapes for approximately 20 minutes (depending on the strength of your oven) until the treats begin to brown.
- Let the cat treats cool completely.
- Store in an airtight container or freeze and thaw as need be.
- Enjoy your cat’s enjoyment of these treats!
