Dogs Love This Honey-Glazed Chicken with Zucchini and Potato Treat

Honey

If you’re a dog owner who also enjoys making their own barbeque dishes, there is a good chance you’ve noticed some serious jealousy in your dog’s eyes every time you start grilling up something meaty and delicious. Even if you slip them something small off the bone, the stares and the begging are never likely to stop anytime soon. So, if you’re interested in making some dog-friendly barbecue—to take your guilt down a notch at the sight of your dog’s sad eyes—you may want to start with this honey-glazed chicken recipe with zucchini and potato.

Despite the presence of vegetables in this recipe, it’s safe to say your dogs will go crazy for it and not leave your side until they are served a plate of their own. With Manuka honey as a sugarless marinade, your canine friends will be just as satisfied as you with this dish.

Ingredients for Honey-Glazed Chicken with Zucchini and Potato

  • One white, large baked potato, 3-4 inches in diameter with skin
  • ⅜ cup of zucchini or summer squash, sliced, boiled, drained, and no salt
  • 5 ¾ ounces of cooked chicken breast, meat only with no skin or bones
  • 1 ¼ teaspoons of Manuka honey
  • 2 tablespoons of margarine

Directions for Honey-Glazed Chicken with Zucchini and Potato

  1. To begin, wrap foil around your potato, poke it five times using a fork, and then place it onto a preheated grill for about 45 minutes. Around 20-25 minutes later, begin grilling your chicken or bake it instead if you prefer.
  2. Five minutes prior to your chicken finishing (final internal temp must be 165 degrees Fahrenheit), you can then baste your chicken using the Manuka honey.
  3. While your chicken and potato are cooking, start grilling the zucchini, or you can steam it on a stove top if you prefer.
  4. Once it’s finished cooking, cut your chicken into pieces that are best suited for your dog’s size.
  5. Add your margarine into the potato after you’ve removed the foil and split the potato open. If you prefer, you can feed your canines the skin for some additional dietary fiber.
  6. Mix all of your ingredients together in a large-enough bowl and serve at your discretion. Note: This is a fairly large dish, so make sure to break it up into multiple servings and across multiple dogs if you have more than one.
