Manuka Honey Recipes

Unless you buy them at your local farm or pet store, it can be difficult for horse owners to find suitable treats for their animals that are low in calories and sugar but still a real reward for their horses to work toward. Fortunately, there are a few great recipes to try that will have your horses seeking you out with their ears and running toward you from across a field, and you can start with this recipe for the ultimate Manuka honey horse cookies!

If you have owned horses for a long time, especially since you were young, then you know exactly how much horses love carrots and apples—and how quickly they can be spoiled and impatient at the mere smell of either food. These cookies combine small amounts of both and bring them together using oats and Manuka honey, the latter of which brings its cohesive properties and great flavor to the recipe. If you think these cookies are right for you, then let’s get started as soon as possible!

Ingredients for the Ultimate Manuka Honey Horse Cookies

  • 1 apple, large
  • 1 carrot, large
  • 2½ cups of oats
  • 1 cup of Manuka honey
  • 2 or 3 tablespoons of vegetable oil

Directions for the Ultimate Manuka Honey Horse Cookies

  1. Before you get started, you need to preheat your oven to 325 degrees Fahrenheit on the Bake setting.
  2. On a clean cutting board, grate both the apple and the carrot before adding them to a medium-sized bowl.
  3. Add the oats, the Manuka honey, and the vegetable oil to the contents of the bowl and mix everything together until well blended.
  4. Using a large spoon, place big spoonfuls of your dough onto a cookie sheet, providing enough space between the cookies for them to spread out properly.
  5. Bake the cookies between 30 and 40 minutes or till they have developed a golden-brown color.
  6. Allow the cookies time to cool down to room temperature on a wire cooling rack or on some wax paper. You can also let them cool down in your refrigerator for a couple of hours.
  7. You can store these cookies in a sealed, airtight container in your pantry or cabinet for up to two weeks or freeze them in your freezer for up to three months.
  8. Note: While the sheer size of your horse should make this clear, these cookies are meant to be used as extra treats as you see fit, and they cannot be used as a substitute for regular meals and nutrition.
