What You Should Consume When You Aren’t Feeling Good

Cold and flu season is here, and many of us are suffering with running noses, sore throats, and annoying coughs that will not give us any rest. Whether you decide to power through the day, do a mediocre job of keeping up and staying on task or resign yourself to bed to get better, everyone is simply looking for some relief. While medication will likely help to get you better, there are also some “power” foods and drinks you can consume that will make you feel better and help soothe things like a sore throat or a stuffy nose.

Tea and Lemon for a Stuffy Nose

There are plenty of sources out there that explain the benefits of drinking lemon water, but did you know that drinking tea with lemon can actually help to clear up a stuffy nose? The warmness of tea will help relax the body, with the sharp hit from the citrus being key in helping to get those nasal passages open and working properly. Not to mention, who doesn’t love being snuggled up in a blanket with a hot beverage when they are feeling rather under the weather?

Manuka Honey and Peppermint Tea for Scratchy Throats

Until your throat is irritated, you never realize how much work your throat actually does when you talk and eat. For many people who aren’t feeling well, having that uncomfortable sore throat feeling go away is one of the most important objectives, and using a nice hot cup of peppermint tea and Manuka honey may be the ticket to relief. Peppermint tea will act as an analgesic to numb the irritation while the honey will help coat the throat and soothe the irritation – and it tastes great, too!

Chicken Soup for Earaches

Earaches are another one of those cold symptoms that are just painfully annoying and can be paired with any of the symptoms already mentioned here. Chicken soup is a classic cold “remedy” that parents and grandparents have been using with their little ones for centuries and, luckily for us, it works for adults too! Chicken soup and bone broth are great for helping to clean congestion, which is the primary cause for earaches. Amino acids found in these foods can also help thin out mucus, which will help it drain faster and ultimately clear up the congestion and the earache in a shorter amount of time.
