Peanut Butter Honey Ice Cream Just for Your Dog

May 07, 2019

Manuka Honey Recipes

When the temperatures get warmer—sometimes warmer than we want them—it’s hard to go wrong with cool, soft, creamy ice cream to cool you off. Well, dogs get overheated as well when spring and summer roll around, so maybe the best treats for them during this time are the same as ours. If you think your dogs would enjoy some homemade, sugar-free ice cream just for them, then you need to check out this peanut butter honey ice cream as soon as possible.

Ingredients for Peanut Butter Honey Ice Cream

  • 2 cups of nonfat, plain, sugar-free yogurt
  • 1 package of chicken and apples baby food
  • 1 cup of smooth peanut butter
  • 2 tablespoons of Manuka honey

Directions for Peanut Butter Honey Ice Cream

  1. Place a cup of smooth peanut butter into a microwave-safe container, and then heat it for roughly 20 seconds until the peanut butter has melted slightly, and this should make it go much easier on your blender.
  2. Add the yogurt, the baby food, the Manuka honey, and the warm peanut butter into a medium-sized bowl, stirring it all together to fully blend. Pour or spoon the mixture into six or eight treat cups until the cups are around two thirds of the way full. Note: This mixture will swell a slight amount as it starts to freeze.
  3. Tap the cups on your counter in order to settle the mixture, and then place the cups onto a level surface in your freezer. Allow the treats time to freeze completely, which should take between three and four hours minimum.
  4. Remove the solidified ice cream cups from your freezer and use wax paper to cover them—this means you can stack the ice cream cups and create more freezer space for your other freezer staples.
  5. Note: This is completely optional, but if you want, you can create some cute lids for the cups with coordinating cardstock. With an empty cup as your stencil, trace the top of the cup and draw a tab on one side for pulling the lid off. Cut the shape out with scissors, making sure you cut around 1/2" inside the pencil line to be sure the lid slides into the ice cream cup.
  6. Return the cups to your freezer. They should keep as long as any regular ice cream you can buy at the store, making it much easier to reward your pups with these delicious frozen treats anytime they deserve one (or just really, really want one).
