Cyclists Need Green Tea with Raw Honey for the Immune System

October 27, 2018

Health

While many simply consider cycling a fun hobby, it’s also much more than that when it comes to the body—it keeps your muscles in tip-top shape, preserves cholesterol and body fat, and per several studies, can hold back aging effects and modernize one’s immune system.

The thymus, which is a lymphoid organ, regularly makes T-cells for the immune system and is said to start lessening once individuals hit 20 years of age. However, study participants who were older cyclists were found to have thymuses that generated T-cells at the same rate as younger study participants. If you’re looking for further ways to boost your immune system, then check out some of our suggestions below.

Elderberries

For those looking to recover soon after their cycling workout, you might want to try elderberries, which are known for being rich in antioxidants. They’re accessible through extracts, capsules, throat sprays, drinks, and lozenges, and they’re said to be beneficial for viruses and fever and reducing sore throats and muscle pain. Elderberries should get you up and running quickly while boosting your immune system in the meantime.

Green Tea

This particular tea is said to be full of immune system-stimulating, anti-microbial and antioxidant properties. When using, it’s best to consume green tea when early symptoms of infection begin showing (in addition to any medication your physician has prescribed). Drink two cups per day, and you can sweeten the tea with some raw honey and keep yourself from taking sugar, which may or may not irritate your symptoms (though it’s different for everyone).

Iron

Despite being fundamental to your immune system, iron is frequently wasted during intense exercise. Because of this, look for good quality food items with iron in them, such as lean meat, fish, poultry, leafy greens, and dried fruits. However, avoid going overboard with supplements, given that too much iron is actually counterproductive.

Mushroom

Mushrooms have been said to help support your immune system, as they’re rich in sugar compounds and polysaccharides. This is especially important for cyclists, because they can be more vulnerable to respiratory infections than most. Mushrooms, including shiitake, cordyceps, maitake, and reishi, are potent immune system enhancers, making them useful for combating exhaustion, boosting energy, and promoting overall T-cell function.

Lavender Oils and Eucalyptus

Essential oils like lavender and eucalyptus are known for not just attacking bacteria but also boosting one’s white blood cells. These particular oils are among the most popular, being used frequently for massage blends that specifically help with strengthening the immune system. They may be especially helpful for your tired-out limbs following long rides.
