Grain-Free Manuka Honey Carrot Dog Treats

Manuka Honey Recipes

While a helpful handful of meat is the kind of treat that will always get your canine friend drooling at your feet, it’s not necessarily your only option outside of the treats you pay a boatload for at your local pet store. You can make your own dog treats right in your own kitchen, starting with this recipe for grain-free Manuka honey carrot dog treats.

Not only is the recipe easy to make as well as inexpensive to put together, but it’s also specifically made with dogs in mind, using coconut flour rather than regular white flour that’s more suitable for our digestive system. The focus on coconut flour also allows for your dog to experience better coat and skin health and serves as a positive alternative for any pooches suffering from sensitivities or allergies. Additionally, your dog will get a nice dose of beta-carotene from the carrot and antioxidants and vitamins from the pumpkin puree.

Ingredients for Grain-Free Manuka Honey Carrot Dog Treats

  • 1 ¼ cups of coconut flour
  • ½ cup of carrot, shredded
  • 1/3 cup of raw Manuka honey
  • 1 cup of peanut butter, smooth
  • 1 tablespoon of pure pumpkin puree
  • 4 large eggs

Directions for Grain-Free Manuka Honey Carrot Dog Treats

  1. To get started on these dog treats, heat your oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit on the Bake setting.
  2. Using a large-sized bowl, combine the coconut flour, the shredded carrot, the Manuka honey, the peanut butter, the pumpkin puree, and the eggs. Stir the ingredients together until blended well into a dough.
  3. After sprinkling a little flour onto some clean counter space (or using a sheet of wax paper instead), roll the cookie dough out to a preferred thickness (depending on the size of your dog, no doubt).
  4. From there, cut the dough out using cookie cutters in any shape you prefer or simply use the top end of a glass to cut out circular treats. Line the treats up a half inch apart on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
  5. Bake the treats in your readied oven for about 18 minutes or until the treats have developed a light-brown color and appear done. Allow the treats ample time to cool down before serving them to your hounds.
  6. You can store these dog treats in an airtight container for up to three weeks or freeze them for about three months.
  7. Note: While your dog will likely eat as many treats as you offer, they are not meant to serve as a replacement for regular meals, as your dog will miss out on the proper nutritional benefits they would receive from standard dog food.
  8. Baking Tip: If you don’t have coconut flour handy, you can try substituting it for roughly 2 cups of rice flour or whole-wheat flour.
