Eating Healthy, Eating Healthy, Manuka Honey , Health, Honey
For years, supermodel and actress Christie Brinkley has entertained us all, from appearances in Sports Illustrated, Glamour, CoverGirl magazines and the classic National Lampoon’s Vacation. Along with film, Brinkley has worked in TV, theater, magazines, publishing, politics, and animal rights advocacy. With such a busy life at age 63, Brinkley has to look her best, and she does that by taking good care of herself and her body. She recently shared some of her food secrets, and here are a few of them for the rest of us to heed!
No Fear of Caffeine
“Every morning I make myself a cappuccino with a drawing in the foam. I post them to Instagram with the hashtag #christiecappuccino.” While many health-obsessed celebrities tend to make themselves suffer in order to meet their physical standards, Christie Brinkley stays true to herself—and that requires coffee for fuel.
Bring on the Dairy
As with caffeine, Brinkley is one of the few in her high-profile field who openly consumes dairy. “I have sheep's milk yogurt from Old Chatham Sheepherding Company mixed with organic blackberries, blueberries, raspberries, papaya, chia seeds, raw oatmeal, and walnuts. If I want protein, I'll have an egg-white omelet with spinach and mushrooms."
Vegetarian, Occasionally Vegan
Brinkley has been a strict vegetarian since she was kid. "I haven't touched a piece of meat since I read a graphic description of Chicago's slaughterhouses when I was 12. Over the years, I've gone through all the varying phases, but currently I'm a vegetarian who doesn't eat fish or dairy except for goat's and sheep's milk. My great luxury in life is my private chef, who is trained in healthy cooking."
Love of Prosecco
Brinkley is the owner of an organic prosecco label called Bellissima. “Prosecco is like the new champagne,” she says. “For the first-time, prosecco has surpassed champagne in sales, so it’s the drink of the moment and just pouring a glass in a flute already looks like a celebration, so I thought how do you improve on that?” She has three types of bottles—Bellisima Sparkling Rose, Bellissima Zero Sugar, and Bellissima Prosecco, all of which come from Italy’s Treviso-Veneto wine region.
Lemon Water Cocktail Every day
Brinkley starts her day with a glass of warm water, fresh squeezed lemon juice, cayenne pepper, and Manuka honey—her lemon water cocktail, which she claims cleanses the liver of all of her coffee and prosecco. Brinkley claims to “put a little bit of Manuka honey on the rim of the glass, turn it upside down, and dump it in red cayenne pepper. Then, I put the lemon juice in and then the hot water. That’s when I have a little time. I figure that the pepper gets my system all revved up, and the lemon water gets everything flowing through. I write about it in my upcoming book. I start my day with that, and then I go right into a cup of coffee.”
