Using Manuka Honey and Other Natural Remedies for that Pesky Tooth Problem

Toothaches can be some of the most annoying and frustrating pains we can deal with, but when they occur during the hustle and bustle of the holiday season, we want to get rid of the pain and continue celebrating as soon as possible. With little to no time to make it to the dentist before Christmas and New Year’s Eve, there are some natural, at-home remedies that you can use to help ease the pain until you can get an appointment with your dentist.

Manuka Honey

Many times, toothaches are due to infections in the gums. Manuka honey has long been known for its anti-bacterial properties, which makes it a great solution for easing the pain of gum infections. After brushing and flossing the teeth as usual, rub a small amount of Manuka honey onto the gums – avoiding the teeth whenever possible – to help calm the infection and soothe the pain before seeing a dentist.

Peanut Butter

Wisdom tooth pain is another annoying, dull pain that many people have to deal with if they have not had their wisdom teeth removed. Taking a small amount of peanut butter and applying it to the affected area regularly can help to create a protection barrier between the bacteria that is causing the pain and the wisdom teeth themselves, which will help to relieve the discomfort and soothe the irritation.

Garlic

Garlic is a very powerful superfood and can be used to relieve tooth pain as well as a number of other ailments. For those who are suffering an annoying toothache, placing thin slices of garlic on the surface of the tooth can help to calm the pain and make it more manageable. Additionally, chewing on garlic can help soothe some of the common ailments from gum disease.

Tea Bags

We have all heard of using tea bags on the eyes to relieve puffiness, but they can also be used to help reduce discomfort from infections in the gums. Simply steep a tea bag or two in boiling water for a few minutes, remove, and allow to cool. Once cooled, place the tea bag on the affected area and allow the tannic acid from the tea to help relieve the pain caused by the gum infection.
