Chewy Homemade Honey Cat Treats

The human of any cat will tell you who really runs the show. We serve at their pleasure, not the other way around. As such, it can be a bit of a trick to find treats and food out of the norm that will not be snubbed by a finicky feline. These treats, however, seem to go over very well more often than not simply because we are incorporating some of their usual foods in with the rest of the treat mixture. As such, by the time these chewy honey homemade cat treats are cooled off, you can rest assured your feline will be circling around your legs looking for a quick fix.

Chewy Homemade Honey Cat Treats Ingredients:

• One egg
• 4oz can of duck or chicken wet cat food (I prefer to use the blue wilderness duck blend)
• 1t raw honey
• 1/4c chopped parsley
• 2t coconut oil
• 2t water
• 1c brown rice flour
• 1/2c cooked brown rice

To Make:

1. Preheat oven to 325 degrees Fahrenheit.
2. Line baking sheet with parchment paper.
3. Using a medium-sized bowl, combine egg, cat food, parsley, olive oil, honey, and water.
4. Whisk ingredients together until combined well.
5. Add rice flour and cooked rice.
6. Stir to incorporate all ingredients (it should be very thick, but spreadable – think peanut butter).
7. Spread mixture onto baking sheet that is about 1/3” high.
8. Bake in oven for 12-15 minutes.
9. Remove from oven and allow to cool.
10. When mixture is able to be handled, cut into small bite-sized pieces (for the cat, not you!).
11. Return to oven and allow to cook for an additional eight minutes.
12. Remove from oven and allow to cool.
13. Store in container and keep in fridge until they are all used up (which if your cats are like mine, will not be very long!).

Since this recipe has honey in it, we recommend discussing this with your vet prior to serving just in case your cat has a condition that will prevent him or her from enjoying this tasty treat. Additionally, we recommend feeding these treats to your cat in moderation.
