If you’re looking for new ways to reward (i.e. spoil) your dogs, then we have the recipe just for you! This tasty mix of peanut butter, carrots, and Manuka honey is so good that you’ll be wanting to try a piece of it yourself. While there is nothing in there that says you can’t try it, let’s save this one for the pooch.
Ingredients for Homemade Manuka Honey Dog Cake
- 1/2cup of all-natural creamy peanut butter
- 1egg
- 1/4cup of vegetable oil
- 1/3cup of Manuka honey
- 1teaspoon of vanilla extract
- 1cup of flour(almond or whole wheat)
- 1cup of shredded carrots
- 1teaspoon of baking soda
Directions for Homemade Manuka Honey Dog Cake
- Preparation: 5 Cooking Time: 30 minutes. Total Time: 35 minutes. Servings: 10.
- To begin, preheat your oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit on the Bake setting.
- Using a medium-sized bowl, combine your peanut butter, the egg, the vegetable oil, the Manuka honey, and the vanilla extract.
- Note: All-natural creamy peanut butter that doesn’t have added sugar or salt is the best choice. Don’t use sugar-free or lite peanut butter, because those could contain artificial sweeteners like xylitol—a known toxin for dogs.
- Note: Also, any alcohol present in vanilla extract will be cooked out while the cake is baking, but you can also substitute it using alcohol-free vanilla extract.
- From there, shred enough carrots to fill one cup and stir it into the mixture before gradually adding the baking soda and the flour until everything has blended together.
- Pour the mixture into a baking pan you’ve greased beforehand. A 3-in by 5.75-in loaf pan should work perfectly, but one 6-cup ring mold would also work.
- Bake the cake in your oven between 30 and 40 minutes, watching closely to be sure you don’t over- or under-cook the cake. Turn the cake out onto a clean wire rack or stretch of counter space until it cools completely.
- You can store the cake in a sealed, airtight container for as much as three days in your refrigerator.
- Note: Don’t feed the whole cake at once to your dogs. It’s better for their health to give out small pieces as treats rather than dishing out the whole thing at once (no matter how much they want you to). Also, as always, make sure to consult your veterinarian regarding any allergies or intolerances your dogs might have.
