Polk County Police Investigating Honor Bar Honey Heist
July 24, 2019
A local honey store in Polk County, FLA, Struther’s Honey, caught a small honey-theft ring on tape and now the local sheriff’s office is looking for help to lock up the culprits. The store is putting a lot of faith in its customers by allowing them to pay on the honor system. While the “thieves” did leave money for their honey, they took far more than they paid for.
After looking at the video, you can clearly see some of the labels on the honey bottles with $20 and $30 price tags. It seems a bit trusting for the company to put thousands of dollars of honey on the shelves for a “trust” store, but that is what they are doing. In this case, the alleged thieves were putting a few dollars in the till then walking out with several hundred dollars worth of honey.
According to police, one thief put in $13 and walked out with $373 of honey. Another man left $5 and walked out with $420 in honey. Amazingly, the owner of the store does not seem bitter at all. Instead, he said he will pray for the alleged thieves. Struthers, whose family has owned the business for more than eight decades, stated, “We pray for the people’s souls. Revenge is God’s. I pray for their souls because they’re going to need it.”
While Struthers will wait for the hand of God to dispense justice, the sheriff’s office is not so patient. Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd has already released the video (click here to see video) and is hoping someone can identify these individuals so they can be brought to justice. Judd stated, “I think this stuff will show up at a flea market. I mean, what else are you going to do with it. Unless you’ve got a bear in the backyard.”
We know the effort it takes and how even a one-off theft like this can set back a small business owner in this industry, so we hope the local sheriff is able to bring these thieves to justice and hopefully recover some of their honey. We may not have an honor bar, but we do have some incredible honey! If you would like to place an order, please click here. Remember, we offer FREE shipping on all orders of $150 or more.
