Getting Your Face Prepped for Spring with Manuka Honey

Manuka Honey Products For Skin Care

There’s no doubt in anyone’s mind—winter’s fluctuating temperatures and dry, cold air can put your skin through serious hardships, resulting in redness, dryness, premature aging, and flakiness. Fortunately, though it can’t come soon enough, spring will be on its way shortly. To make sure your skin is ready for it, here are three pros of the beauty industry offering their favorite treatments that will revitalize your skin for the warm months before us.

Amanda Murphy

Amanda Murphy, who is a model for Prada’s 2018-2019 fall/winter ad campaign, is often jet-setting around the world on assignment, which means an easy, no-fuss skincare routine is vital. For a quick moisture boost for combating seasonal dryness, Murphy creates her own DIY mask, saying, “I like to use Manuka honey mixed with a few drops of rose water as a mask. Leave it on for 15-20 minutes, and then wipe it off with a hot damp towel. It leaves your skin feeling soft and balanced.”

To get moisture back into her skin and slough dead skin cells off, Murphy visits her dermatologist to get a facial with plenty of exfoliation. She also pays close attention to her diet when considering the state of her hair and skin. “I incorporate a lot of nuts and seeds into my diet, which also helps keep your hair, skin, and nails in great condition,” Murphy said.

Emily Arch

As a dermatologist for the Chicago-based Dermatology + Aesthetics, Dr. Emily Arch believes dry skin is the greatest skincare challenge for winter time, but the remedy can be found right in your drugstore. “The easiest thing to do is to add a hyaluronic serum into your regime before applying moisturizer. It pulls more water into the skin and into the deeper layers of the skin,” Arch said. For nighttime, Arch recommends patients switch to a heavier cream, with the key being to find one that contains ceramides, which should help your skin maintain moisture. “Ceramides help with that flaky, dull appearance from the dry winter air,” says Arch.

Leah Chavie

According to Leah Chavie, a Chicago-based esthetician and the owner of her own skincare boutique, the quickest way to get results is through a facial. Chavie says that rejuvenation and exfoliation are how you save winter skin as well as preparing it for the warmer seasons, and there is nothing like receiving professional facials to get this process rolling. To get real results, she recommends a combined treatment of exfoliation, enzyme facials, and dermaplaning, which is said to “[remove] dead skin and tiny vellus hairs from the face and [exfoliate] the skin, leaving it smooth and treatment-ready,” Chavie said.
